31 Days 2013: Interviews
I've been on a few interviews recently and have had a whole bunch of phone
interviews along with them. Interviews freak me out. I am not one of those
people that get excited or even remotely interested in talking about me
especially since I have very little professional experience. Today's interview
was rather strange for me though. I've had a group interview with other
candidates but never an interview with three people from the company. I felt it
was rather awkward and I still cannot figure out why they did it this way other
than what they told me, which was it gave them three different perspectives. I
was so nervous and completely out of my element just because the whole
interview seemed very stiff and robotic almost. They had a packet of question
and each asked one without any personality. To me that just make me feel like
the company has no personality and is just stiff and boring.
Anyways my whole point for today is that I am trying to take the advice of two women who I've come across that told me the same thing. The first person was my career development professor in college and the second person was a woman I just interviewed with recently. They both told me to think of interviewing as a skill and that even if you don't get the job you've gotten more practice at that skill to make yourself better the next time. Now this is great advice and so true, but the biggest problem I have with it is how do I make myself better if I don't know what I did wrong?
I've been doing some research on that and have found nothing. So if anyone has words of advice or wants to share their experiences with interviewing please feel free to leave a comment.
